Course Overview
A Fiber Optics Installerhas ageneralunderstandingofoptical fiber installation, connectorization, splicing, and testing, is familiar withoptical fiber, connector, and splice performance characteristics described inTIA/EIA-568B, ITU-T G.671, ITU-T G.652 and Telcordia GR-326 A Fiber Optic Installer can perform connector endface evaluation as described inTIA/EIA-455-57B, is proficient inoptical loss testingas described inTIA/EIA-526-14A, and understands the installationrequirements described inarticles 770 and 250of the National Electrical Code. A Fiber Optic Installer is proficient at the installationof connectorsonvarious types’ fiberofoptic cablesusingvarious typesof epoxies, and can perform mechanical and fusionsplicing.
Fiber Optic Installers are expected to obtainknowledgeof basic conceptsof fiberoptics installationand service whichare applicable toall the functions required tosafely and competently install fiber optics communications cabling. Once a CFOIhas acquired these skills, abilities, and knowledge,heor she should be able toenter employment inthe telecommunications cablingfield. With minimal traininginareasunique tothe special requirementsof individual productsor systems designs, the Fiber Optics Installer should become a profitable and efficient partof the workforce
